WE ALL KNOW the childhood rhyme, "Beans, beans, they're good for your heart..." Well, it's time to stop snickering. Regardless of joking references to their other effects, beans are a good source of protein and some important vitamins, includng B6. And now a new study finds beans really are good for your heart-combating unhealthy cholesterol, even among people at higher risk for heart disease.
Researchers at the USDA's Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center found that daily consumption of a small amount of pinto beans led to encouraging cholesterol reductions in healthy people.
