Dickinson, David K., & Patton O. Tabors, (Eds.). (2001). Beginning Literacy with Language: Young Children Learning at Home and School. Baltimore, MD: Paul H. Brookes Publishing. 409 pp. ISBN 1-55766-479-X.

Throughout the book the editors show the significant influence that opportunities for talking in routine activities with three-year olds has on emergent literacy achievement in kindergarten. The abundant excerpts of dialogue between the children and parents or teachers will engage readers as much as they provide a rich context for thinking about the lives of the children.
