This book is written to help mental health professionals develop positive and collaborative relationships with families of individuals diagnosed with a debilitating psychiatric disorder. The authors contend that to enhance the functioning of the family and to improve the course of the disorder, families need accurate information about the disorder including effects of medication, psychological treatments and its long term course. Furthermore, they contend that families can benefit from improving their communication skills and from developing new learning strategies for resolving problems and achieving personal and family goals.
