Benzyl benzoate 10 g
Cremophor RH 40 22 g
Alcohol 41 g
Purified water qs 100 g
METHOD OF PREPARATION
1. Calculate the required quantity of each ingredient for the total amount to be prepared.
2. Weigh and/or measure each ingredient accurately.
3. Heat the benzyl benzoate and Cremophor RH 40 to about 60°C.
4. Add the water slowly with rapid stirring.
5. Remove from heat, add the alcohol, and mix well.
6. Package and label.
PACKAGING
Package in tight, light-resistant containers.1
LABELING
Keep out of reach of children. Use only as directed.
STABILITY
A beyond-use date of up to 6 months can be used for this preparation.1
USE
Benzyl benzoate lotion is used as a scabicide and pediculocide.
QUALITY CONTROL
Quality-control assessment can include weight/volume, pH, specific gravity, active drug assay, color, globule size range, rheological properties/pourability, physical observation, and physical stability (discoloration, foreign materials, gas formation, mold growth).2
