Abstract

In the epic poem "Paradise Lost," John Milton includes a number of timely themes, the most controversial of which pertains to the depiction of sexual relations and gender roles. Milton's depiction of Adam and Eve may be seen as an attempt to come to terms with male-constructed binary oppositions and the failure of these oppositions to define and to control human sexuality.
