On October 9, 2006 the Democratic People's Republic of Korea conducted a nuclear test. This was a big surprise for many policymakers and researchers who underestimated or did not understand the DPRK for many years. For the ones who understood the North Korean mindset, this came as no surprise. The Korean Peninsula is the last memorial of the Cold War and it has the potential of creating a regional and global crisis that could lead to an unintended war, potentially causing more damage than the Korean War. These are some of the reasons why we have to learn more about the Korean Peninsula and why we should read this book.
