BOOK REVIEW: THE ART OF INNOVATION, BY TOM KELLEY
I've always considered myself a fairly creative person, however Mr. Kelley's innovative approach to running a business and office environment goes far beyond the scope of what I could have conjured up on my own.
Author Tom Kelley is general manager of the Silicon Valley based firm IDEO. This firm has been responsible for such innovative products as the Apple mouse, Polaroid's I-Zone instant camera, the Palm handheld, the "fat" toothbrush for kids, and a self-sealing water bottle for dirt bikers. As a result, companies worldwide have long wondered what the secret to IDEO's creative success has been, and that's exactly what Mr. Kelley reveals in this book.
I have to say, that after reading this book I felt as if I could do anything. It left me feeling both inspired and overjoyed at the prospect of my own creativity and innovative ideas. I found myself looking at every process or service critically wherever I went and trying to think of a new or improved way of delivering that product or providing that service, whether I was in the grocery store or standing in line at the bank. Reading this book was more like visiting the IDEO office in person than sitting in my living room.
