William L. Anderson's Cherokee Removal is a loosely structured collection of essays commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Cherokees' Trail of Tears. The anthology is framed by brief introductory and bibliographical essays by the editor.
The first essay, by Douglas C. Wilms, documents tribal cultural and economic achievement as indicated by the acquisition of real and personal property, development of roads and commerce, cultivation of the land, and other factors recorded in census returns and land records of the Cherokees before removal.
