An inset on this book's cover describes it as: "The most complete account yet of Australia's longest war." The claim is a bold one, given the many books on Australian involvement in the Vietnam War. Unlike most authors of those studies, however, John Murphy has produced an interpretive history of Australia's Vietnam War which attempts to integrate, in a single volume, analysis of relevant trends in Cold War and domestic politics, of socio-cultural changes in Australia relating to the rise of an influential antiwar movement, and of social and political revolution in Vietnam itself.
