The German Catholic series Die Neue Echter Bibel has provided a number of helpful and concise critical commentaries on books of the Bible. Josef Scharbert has contributed commentaries on Genesis and Exodus and has now added a new study of the Book of Numbers to the series. As is true of the entire collection, this commentary on Numbers is aimed at nonspecialists who are interested in the Bible and who desire a readable and responsible guide to a biblical book without too much technical detail. The whole commentary is 144 pages long.
The book begins with a brief five-page introduction to the contents and structure of Numbers, its literary development as a book, the interpretations of Numbers in later NT texts, and the significance of Numbers for the theology of the church.
