The basic organization of the Sabiston text is maintained, with divisions into topic headings that cover the entire field of surgery, with all subjects updated, new authors in some areas, and new topics and new authors in others (e.g., surgical aspects of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, lung transplantation, tumor markers, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and the role of computers in surgery).
