In British Southern Cameroons: Nationalism and Conflict in Postcolonial Africa, the editor, Fonkem Achankeng, covers the postcolonial period in the British Southern Cameroons. While several authors have broadly covered changes in African countries after European colonization, Achankeng choses to cover what he describes as intra-African colonization, using the British Southern Cameroons as a unique case study for this phenomenon. Also, while many authors have focussed on the non-African influences on post-colonial societies, Achankeng brings out the influences of one African nation upon another. This case is unique in yet one other way: this case does not represent the breakup of a state, but rather the annexation of two states not associated with each other during colonial times. The legal issue of Southern Cameroons has been a part of international debate for over a century, as of yet, without a satisfactory resolution.
