A 66-year-old woman developed acute contact dermatitis involving her neck and chest secondary to application of a product containing menthol (2.6%), eucalyptus oil (1.2%), camphor (4.73%), thymol, Myristica oil, cedar leaf oil, turpentine oil and petrolatum [Vicks VapoRub, dosage not stated] to relieve symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection. She had been using the product for years. She started using hydrocortisone and an antibacterial cream for treatment of her dermatitis. Subsequent patch testing was positive for Vicks VapoRub, as well as eucalyptus and cedar wood oils, and various other allergens [patient outcome not stated].
