Researchers have discovered what gang members have known all along-that you're more likely to survive a serious injury if you get yourself to hospital than if you wait for an ambulance. 1
"Scoop and run" describes the most basic form of prehospital trauma care-transportation with no intervention. A study from 2014 found that patients who used private transportation had improved survival compared with those who waited for an ambulance. But researchers from John Hopkins University School of Medicine wanted to investigate survival according to the prehospital care on a larger whole system scale.
