POSITION DESCRIPTION
The American Sign Language department is part of Chaffey’s languages program, which includes Arabic, Chinese, ESL, French, and Spanish. Courses in the department are conducted in the target language and go beyond the teaching of grammar and vocabulary to include deaf culture and society. The program offers an Associate Degree in Sign Language Studies. The successful candidate will have a pedagogical approach that is focused on providing meaningful communicative interactions and experiences that promote cultural competency. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for instruction, curriculum development, program review, and the development and assessment of student learning outcomes, as well as participation in any other professional responsibilities as identified under 18.2.3 of the faculty agreement. A typical teaching assignment for the full-service week may include day, evening, or weekend classes at the Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana or Chino campuses.
SCOPE OF ASSIGNMENT
* Teach assigned courses in a manner consistent with the department’s standards and with the contents cited in the approved curriculum guides.
* Remain current in the subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction.
* Participate in course and curriculum design and development, student advisement, program review, and district/college/school committees as required to maintain and improve the instructional program.
* Participate in department and division meetings and contribute through appropriate committee assignments.
* Perform other assigned tasks for the benefit of the college, the community, and the profession.
* Collaborate in the creation of ASL Lab assignments and materials.
* Demonstrate multicultural competence, including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations, and creating an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity and diversity
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Any bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional experience; OR
* Any associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience; OR
