One wishes that most workshops and conferences would generate a book as well organized and polished as this one. The credit goes to the editors who have designed an elaborate conceptual framework which was used as a guideline and an introduction for structuring the themes, for organizing the different contributions and for summarizing conclusions and recommendations. This is appropriate as the seminar upon which the book is based (The Hidden Assignment: At Home in the City, organized by the Dutch Ministry of Development Co-operation, the Netherlands Architecture Institute and the Delft University of Technology) was aimed at the professionals working on urban policies in developing countries.
This publication follows the same instructional framework as the seminar which proves to be very useful but unfortunately the book's dense format makes the texts difficult to refer to. As the book...
