ABSTRACT
The present study investigates the challenges faced by tourism industry of Haryana. The data used are secondary in nature. The paper found that the state has successfully en-cashed pilgrimage and highway tourism concepts. Now turn is to explore the unique opportunities for contemporary forms of tourism. The paper discussed problems related to tourism professionals, community participation, effective tourism policy and bottleneck of infrastructure. Analysis of literature survey, researcher's travelling experience and indirect oral discussions have suggested some managerial strategies for future of industry.

INTRODUCTION
Haryana emerged as a full-fledged state on November1, 1966 with 2% of India's population and less than 1.37% of total area of country. The state carved a place of distinction for itself with in record time in term of infrastructure development. The god has also blessed it with rich base of various types of tourism like heritage, culture, farm, rural, adventure, medical and nature tourism. Tourism industry has grown rapidly in state and tourist traffic reached 6955882 in years 2010-11 (Haryana Tourism Development Corporation, 2011).The report also reveals that, Kurukshetra received maximum number of tourists which was followed by Faridabad. Gurgoan, because of proximity to Delhi has also appeared as a hub of business and medical tourists. The coordinated efforts of Department of Tourism, Haryana Tourism Development Corporation, Haryana Urban Development Authority, Department of Archeological Survey and other Government sponsored organizations had promoted tourism activities in state. Considering inherent capabilities to create economic, socio-cultural, political and environmental benefits to society, Government's policy has included it in priority list. Accepted fact is that the reliable, correct and up to date information is basic requirement of any tourism plan. But literature survey found no such study on Haryana Tourism in this context. The present study is an effort to examine the major issues of tourism in state. The analysis part suggests some managerial strategies for development of industry. The objectives of this study follow as
1) To identify the major problems faced by tourism Industry in Haryana.
2) To investigate scope for implementation of new managerial strategies.
3) To provide appropriate and applied strategies for tourism development in state.
