China's 'eugenics' law still disturbing despite relabelling

Abstract

International discussions in Beijing on controversial family planning legislation have been productive, but China's law still gives grounds for worry. The law remains ambiguous on the extent to which couples will in practice be left free of pressure to accept or reject a recommended sterilization.
