After appointments at the Royal East Sussex Hospital, the Lister Hospital, the London Hospital, and St Andrew’s Hospital, Chris received an MSc in clinical microbiology in 1985 and moved to Newcastle upon Tyne with his wife, Angela, whom he had married in 1984. During six enjoyable years in the north east, Chris worked at Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital. In 1991 he relocated to Tarporley, Cheshire, with his young family, and took the role of consultant microbiologist at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
Over the following 25 years, Chris became a respected figure in north Wales and beyond, fulfilling many roles, including clinical director pathology; honorary senior lecturer undergraduate studies, University of Wales College of Medicine and Manchester University; senior lecturer in microbiology, University of Cardiff; honorary subdean of medicine, University of Cardiff; and honorary senior lecturer, University of Wales.
