A 23-year-old woman developed Stevens Johnson syndrome (SJS) following antibiotic treatment with clindamycin.
The woman had a two-day history of photophobia, bilateral conjunctival injection and decreased visual acuity, and a fourday history of a sore throat, fever and headache. She had received treatment with cefixime for presumptive bacterial pharyngitis. Her medical history was significant for monthly contact lens use. A slit lamp examination showed moderate diffuse conjunctivitis with a papillary reaction without pseudo-membranes in either eye. The right cornea had an 8 x 8mm patchy area, roughened epithelium and occasional bullae. The left cornea had 3.5 x 7.5mm area with similar appearance to right cornea. Initially, superficial...
