COMO O CRESCIMENTO EVANGÉLICO SE TRANSFORMA EM REPRESENTAÇÃO POLÍTICA?

Abstract

Por que a representação política evangélica nos parlamentos latino-americanos varia tanto? A partir de um estudo dos casos de Brasil, Colômbia e Chile, argumento que o crescimento da população evangélica, por si só, não se traduz necessariamente em maior número de evangélicos eleitos. A transformação do crescimento evangélico em representação política é mediada pelas instituições políticas e pela estrutura interna das igrejas.

Why does the evangelical political representation in Latin American parliaments vary so much? Based on a study of the cases of Brazil, Colombia and Chile, I argue that the growth of the evangelical population, per se, does not necessarily translate into a greater number of elected evangelicals. The transformation of evangelical growth into political representation is mediated by political institutions and the internal structure of the churches.
