Abstract

[...]the definition of device-specific proficiency is a critical element of study designs when comparing performance of intubation devices. [...]patient comfort is an important endpoint for assessing usability of awake intubation technique. Because of its ability to be manually manipulated and see around corners, the FB has been established as the gold standard device for difficult airway management and patient comfort during awake intubation with the FB has been well assessed [3,4]. [...]there has been no randomized clinical trial comparing patient comfort during awake intubations using the ILMA and FB. [...]this study would have provided more useful information about the choice of two studied devices for awake intubation, if patient comfort had been included in study design.
