Abstract
'The 24 chapters of the second section, "The Clinical Spectrum of Acute Renal Failure", are of more practical value to the generalist, and cover such topics as the clinical and laboratory diagnosis of acute renal failure, coexisting metabolic and electrolyte disturbances, and renal imaging. Most causes of acute renal failure are then discussed in the following chapters. All these chapters are concise and follow the usual organisation of introduction, pathogenesis, associated clinical conditions, differential diagnosis, laboratory diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. The quality and content of the tables and illustrations are excellent, and will be of great use to the generalist. The chapters on pigment-induced renal failure, renal failure associated with liver disease, and renal failure associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents are especially valuable.
