Saldanha Steel Ltd, a member of Iscor, in South Africa is one of the world's lowest-cost producers of hot rolled coil based on the Corex and a Corex gas-based DRI technology. The plant has established itself as a premium producer of ultra-thin high-quality HRC by the EAF - thin slab caster route. Environmental acceptability has also been well established by these ironmaking processes as a result of reduced sulphur and greenhouse gas emissions as compared to the traditional blast furnace coke oven route.
