Aims and Scope

A transdisciplinary open access journal, Earth's Future focuses on the state of the Earth and the prediction of the planet's future. By publishing peer‐reviewed articles as well as editorials, essays, reviews, and commentaries, this journal will be the preeminent scholarly resource on the Anthropocene. It will also help assess the risks and opportunities associated with environmental changes and challenges.

Publication Charges

The publication charge income received for Earth's Future helps support rapid publication, allows more articles per volume, makes possible the low subscription rates, and supports many of AGU's scientific and outreach activities. To encourage papers to be written in a concise fashion, there is an excess length fee. For Earth's Future the fee is assessed only on the equivalent of more than 25 publication units. The excess length fee does not apply to review articles, and the editor may waive the fee on a limited number of concisely written papers that merit being longer. There is no charge for color in any format.

All Earth's Future articles are published under a Creative Commons License. All Research Councils UK (RCUK) and Wellcome Trust funded authors will be directed to the Creative Commons Attribution license (CC BY) in accordance with funder mandates effective on 1 April 2013. All other authors (non‐RCUK and Wellcome Trust authors) will be directed to the Creative Commons Attribution‐Non‐Commercial‐NoDerivs (CC BY NC ND). Copyright on any research article published by Earth's Future is retained by the author(s). Authors grant the Publisher a license to publish the article.
