Abstract
Ebussuûd Efendi (d. 892/1574), who hold various offices such as mudarris, qadi (judge of the Shari’ah court), qadiasker (jurist mainly concerned with military cases) is one of the Ottoman State’s Shaykhs al-Islam. It was a matter of debate whether it is permissible to wipe footgear which is worn on broadcloth (cloth made of pure silk) and kirbas (ordinary cloth) in his era. Risâle fi’l-mesh-i ale’l-huffeyn, the topic of our work, is based on these discussions. In this research, the manuscript copies obtained from the Turkish Libraries were identified and analyzed and the verified text was created by means of the preferential text examination method.
