Abstract

Alternate abstract:

The reign of Ferdinand III of Castile and León (1217-1252) constitutes a period of transition between the old royal curiae of the early and high Middle Ages into the Cortes of the late medieval period when the institution will fully develop. Throughout this work we approach the study of the juridical and institutional transformation of the old royal curiae from the second half of the twelfth century, as well as the evidence revealed about this process in the reign of Ferdinand III, with special focus on the "ordinances" promulgated by this monarch at the Cortes of Seville in 1250.
