Judith Dinham's Delivering Authentic Arts Education 2nd edition is an 'all about arts' how-to guide for preservice primary teachers. The text aims to introduce, entice and initiate the reader into the world of teaching Dance, Drama, Media, Music and Visual Art in Australian schools. Dinham does note in the introduction that the book is also intended for novice teachers and experienced teachers who would like a "new guide for contemporary arts teaching" (p. x). The word 'contemporary' serves as a good description in regards particularly to the up-to-date ACARA references throughout and this edition's technology savvy contents. Covered here is a brief look at the new additions into this edition, continuing on with an overview of the three main parts of the book, followed by a brief overall evaluation of the text from the perspective of an online facilitator having used the book as weekly reading for a university Arts Education unit. My first reaction to this text was its welcomed pro-arts approach, the brightness of the colour images and a closely knitted connection with the Australian Curriculum.
New to this edition and reflecting Dinham's background is visual art are full colour images throughout. ACARA 'The Arts' curriculum information has been updated for 2014. Beware the reordered chapters in this edition if familiar with the last. Enlarged...
