The use of technology for nursing education is rapidly expanding. As an increasing number of nursing courses are being designed for distance or online education, faculty will increasingly be asked to convert their traditional courses for online education. Since the approach to the delivery of content and methods of interaction differ from traditional classroom education, faculty new to this medium need to develop expertise in online education. This book, which focuses on the use of technology in nursing education through online Web-based courses, will fill the knowledge gap for those needing expertise and guidance to develop their own courses.
Nursing roles in the online environment are proliferating. The most common roles are with consumers, other nurses, and nursing students. Nurses are providing health information to the public and select groups of patients through consumer informatics. As many more consumers turn to the Internet for health information, this method of health information delivery and support will provide nurses with a way to interact with patients.
