Abstract
The term self-concept is the general term used to refer to how someone thinks about or perceives himself. The self-concept is composite of relatively permanent self assessment such as personality attributes, knowledge of one's skills and abilities, one's occupation and hobbies, and awareness of one's physical attributes. The sense of self does not start any particular age, rather it begins in infancy, and children acquire and organize information about them as a way to enable them to understand the relation between the self and their social world. This developmental process is a direct consequence of children's emerging cognitive skills and their social relationships with both family and peers. During early childhood, children's self-concept is less differentiated and is centered on concrete characteristics, such as physical attributes, possessions, and skills. During middle childhood, the self concept becomes more integrated and differentiated as the child engages in social comparison and more clearly perceives the self as consisted of internal and psychological characteristics.
The second aspect of the present paper is health that is associated with achieving our maximum health potential. According to World Health Organization (WHO, 1948), health is "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." Restoring health is a primary therapeutic goal and interventions are generally directed towards improving their Quality Of Life (QOL). The concept of health is unique for every one and each individual considers it with respect to his/her own criteria. This concept of health is influenced by various physical, mental and social factors and is termed self concept. The varying degree of self-concept or self esteem that exists between individuals can offer insight into the varying degrees of mental and physical health. A positive self-concept (a sense of self-worth and a feeling of control) appears key to developing good mental and physical health. There are reasons to believe that health may be described as an enduring aspect of self concept.
