Children have variety of problems and are highly vulnerable to physical and verbal abuse, sexual victimization, critical traumatic experiences, and accidents. They are exposed to unhealthy habits like smoking, drug usages, theft, robbery and other illegal activities. They don't express their feelings and concerns freely with anyone. Drawing can be used to assess those hidden expressions of the child. Drawings can be used in school settings with students who are struggling with normal developmental issues (Chen Foley, Y., Mullís, F., 2008). The present case study analyzed a VIII standard school student who had difficulties in studies as well as some behaviour problems by using Draw-a-Person test.
Key Words: Children, hazards, developmental issue, draw-a person test, expressions.
Children are observing each and everything from their environment, while they grow. They try to imitate the behaviour of others and consider them as role models. When they are observing right they do right, if not they act accordingly. Their learnt behaviours are either reinforced or punished that determine the occurrence of the behaviour. When they are allowed freely to express the feeling and behaviours observed, by parents and significant others, they develop a positive regard and trust over others and self (Wenar, Kerig, 2000). If they are restricted or not motivated to do so result in negative self-image, social withdrawal, and they avoid participating in social gatherings. Suppressing their emotions within them self creates problems internally and it is exhibited through their academic performance, hostile behaviours towards others, problems in interpersonal relationships, etc (Sarason and Sarason; 2012).
Problems like anxiety exist in all ages of life. In childhood and adolescence, labelling, school phobia, parental punishments, fears of failures, others are some of the commonly found sources of anxiety and other hostile behaviours in their age (Wenar&Kerig, 2000). These are also associated with problems in academic performances, relations with teachers and friends, etc.; Problems of these concerns are not expressed by the children while conducting psychological tests using questionnaires or rating scales. Hence the Projective tests play an important role in finding out such latent content of the client especially in children.
