Abstract

In this article this publication presents a case study carried out with a student with dysarthria in the English language classroom. Dysarthria refers to "a group of speech disorders resulting from disturbances in muscular control". They will focus on how to assess students with dysarthria based on diagnostic tests in L1 (first language) and FL (foreign language) that describe the student's abilities regarding the production of both languages. As part of a larger project on the assessment of oral skills, their case study has been conducted in order to evaluate ways in which students with dysarthria could be assessed in the English as a Foreign Language classroom. In order to do so, they will first need to define what is understood by "assessment". Their concern is to find a way in which teachers may deal with a specific diversity type in the higher education classroom.
