Not so long ago one was always reading about the lack of good theoretical writing in landscape architecture. It seems that the Wiley Series in Sustainable Design is a concerted attempt to fill that void. While we are still digesting the implications of John T. Lyle's Regenerative Design for Sustainable Development and Robert J. Thayer's Gray World, Green Heart, along comes this substantial volume which is a collection of papers given at an international symposium entitled Landscape architecture: ecology and design and planning, held in Tempe, Arizona in April 1993.
