As 2019 draws to a close, the siege and shut down in Indian Held Kashmir goes on, since August 4 without a check. Now the onset of winter is bound to result in further deaths and disabilities. From being a question of Human Rights, the situation in Kashmir has descended to one of sheer human survival. We note with gratitude that the United States Congress has mounted a concerted campaign to alleviate the misery of 8 million Kashmiris. Throughout November and December, the U.S. Congress has repeatedly passed resolutions and questioned functionaries of their State Department in this regard. Deserving of tribute is Congresswoman Pramila Jaypal, of Indian origin, but committed to Human Rights.
His Majesty King Carl Gustaf of Sweden even while on Indian soil spoke out on the situation in Kashmir on December 4, while the Swedish Foreign Minister called for respect for Human Rights, the need for deescalation, and a long term solution which must involve the inhabitants of Kashmir.
