Hashim has three agendas in this book: to explore the historical development of the Islamic and National educational systems in Malaysia; to outline each one's curriculum, teaching methodologies and administration; and to propose what she believes to be a timely and productive integration of the two systems. Her philosophy of education follows the Prophet Muhammad who stressed the compatibility of faith and reason as the cornerstone of Islamic education. Questions should be encouraged in prayer, and developing knowledge about and responsibility for God's creations stressed in science. It is important to educate about all that exists and develops in the world without denying the religious basis of morality and responsibility.
