Sending a book on Effective Literature Searching for Students (the title of the earlier 1989 edition) to a reference librarian besieged by them is rather like waving a red rag to a curmudgeonly bull! "Effective" - why bother?; "Literature" - what is that?; "Searching" - if only they would!; "Research" - that pretentious word! But I shall do my best.
