Abstract

The aim of this article is to determine whether even with the boom in international prices commodities which occurred between 2002 and 2013, Ecuador continued to maintain the historic unfavorable unequal exchange, which characterizes its foreign trade. To meet this objective, we used methodologies physical analysis of foreign trade, as the Trade Balance Physical and calculating the price per physical unit exported / imported. The results show that the unequal exchange, not only maintained, but increased during the price boom. Therefore, Ecuador condition of supplier of raw materials to the developed world, which involves the historical deterioration of its natural heritage, intensified with the boom in prices in the period analyzed.
