The present volume should be greeted as a valuable addition to the PMHRS series. In it the criticism on the Cid produced outside Spain in the decades following T. A. Sanchez's pioneering edition (Madrid, 1779) is assessed within the framework of reception theory. The reference to Europe in the title is not exact, but further precision would have required a clumsy wording. Luis Galván and Enrique Banús cover mainly material published in Germany, Austria, France, and Great Britain, but they also consider authors related to these countries or their languages, such as the French- writing Dozy, the London-based Bello, and the...
