The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has been forced into a last-minute redrafting of a key section of its new code of conduct after unions cast doubt over its accuracy.
Although worries about the code's section on vicarious liability and the need to have indemnity insurance have been allayed by the eleventh-hour changes, concerns about other aspects of the new code remain, Nursing Standard understands.
The Code: Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives will be sent to 670,000 registrants from Monday.
When it comes into effect on May 1, every nurse will be expected to abide by it or face an NMC investigation.
