Remote sensing is a scientific discipline that uses instruments on satellites and numerous other platforms to examine the surface and atmosphere of the Earth. It is a field which has reference to many earth science, atmospheric science and environmental disciplines. As such, an encyclopaedia in this field has broad appeal across these sectors.
