Even if you had not read the dust jacket of Thomas Berger's latest novel, Robert Crews, it would not take you long to figure out that the book is about a "modern day Robinson Crusoe." In the first chapter Crews is involved in a plane crash while en route to a remote fishing lodge. The pilot, an old college roommate, and his fellow passengers are killed, and Crews spends the remaining pages of the novel finding his way back to civilization while learning to appreciate life in the wilderness.
