ESSENTIALS OF MODERN ALGEBRA by Cheryl Chute Miller Mercury Learning and Information, VA, 2013, 326 pp. ISBN: 978-1-936-42018-6
Essentials of Modern Algebra takes a descriptive look at Modern Algebra, focusing mainly on groups and rings with some information on fields. This text would be a great fit for any undergraduate course in Modern Algebra since it could be used in an intense one-semester course as well as in a more classic two-semester course. Going over essentials such as function, set notation, and mathematical induction, along with some insights into number theory and linear algebra, the preface of the text gives extensive background information that prepares the reader for the remainder of the text. While not explicitly broken into parts, the text seems to be divided into four sections.
Chapters 1 through 3 on group theory make up the first section....
