Abstract

There are numerous authors who talk about the European secularization of the 21st century, about a clear distinction between the Church and the State. However, the present article provides some empirical arguments which support the connection that still exists between the Church and the State. Nowadays, the Church is present not only at national level, but also at supranational level. Churches have an open, constant and transparent dialogue with the EU, religious organisations are lobbying at European level and the common religious heritage is stated in the European treaties. At national level, for instance, to a greater or smaller extent, more or less directly, all States are financing the Church.
