Abstract

Natural wetlands provide important ecosystem services for human well-being. The aim of this work is to estimate the willingness to contribute to the conservation of the wildlife refuge "Río Máximo" located in Camagüey in its buffer zone communities. General and empirical research methods are used. The contingent valuation method used and the technique of "willingness to pay" (DP) is contextualized for Cuban conditions and the "willingness to contribute" (DC) is conceived with money and time working in agriculture works and custodian works. The RAMSAR site also is located on the north coast of the province of Camagüey, Cuba. It occupies a total area of ??22 580 hectares (14 560 marine hectares and 8020 hectares of land). The contribution of community reaches an estimated 59 649 pesos in a year with a general average of 4 970.74 pesos. In the amount the productive works stick out, followed by money and custody of the wetland.
