A 27-year-old man showed false positive HIV test results leading to misdiagnosis of HIV infection following drug abuse with exemestane, testosterone and trenbolone enanthate.
The man, who presented in the fall of 2017 with dysuria and urinary hesitancy, was noted to be positive for gonorrhoea. At that time, he was tested for HIV infection with ADVIA Centaur, which showed negative result. His only HIV risk factor was heterosexual contact with multiple partners in the last 6 months. He had been tested negative for HIV in 2014, 2016, and earlier in 2017. A repeat HIV testing performed with ADVIA Centaur in January 2018 was found to be indeterminate.
