Abstract Intensive curing barn is an important component of flue-cured tobacco production in China, with progress made. However, problems still exist, such as lower heat energy utilization efficiency and slow equipment update. In the research, optimization ways of tobacco barn were analyzed in flue-cured tobacco production regions, and assessment was made on improvement effects, in order to provide references for highly-efficient and low-carbon development of curing barn.

Recently, intensive curing barn develops fast, improving tobacco curing efficiency and meeting the demands of large-scale tobacco planting and production mode changes111. The intensive curing barn is characterized by high loading density, hot-wind circulation and forced ventilation, which promotes intelligent control. Specifically, radiating pipe and room airs in a heating chamber should be heated by firing coals, and hot wind be sent into tobacco-loading room with a draught fan. Subsequently, tobacco leaves would be heated through tobacco-layers, and some moisture would be exhausted through moisture-exhaustion windows, most of which blend with fresh airs from an air inlet. Hence, the mixture would be re-sent into the heating chamber, and sent to a tobacco-loading chamber after heated by a radiating tube. The process would circulate until tobaccos totally dried121. However, in the process of intensive curing bam extension, some problems should be recognized, such as low energy-supply and heat-use efficiency, poor maintenance of facility updating, low intelligent control degree, and serious environment pollution13^1. In the research, based on development, application fruit, as well as problems of intensive curing bam in tobacco fields, the profits with different optimization modes were analyzed, providing references for highly-efficient and low-carbon development of curing barns.
Problems of Intensive Curing Barns
Heat use ratio of curing barn to be improved
Currently, heat-supply facilities of intensive curing bam in China is dominated by charcoal-fired hot-air furnace consisting of a heating furnace, a smoke-air heat exchanger and a chimney, in heating chamber nearby tobacco-loading chamber. After airs from tobacco-loading chamber are heated with the heat exchanger, the airs would be sent to the tobacco-loading chamber with a circulating fan to dry tobaccos in the chamber. It is measured that available energy generally keeps lower of facilities of intensive curing barns in...
