Abstract The center value of the Tropic of Cancer (23°26'17") is taken as the standard. The principle of the Tropic of Cancer passing through the country is that as long as the Tropic of Cancer crosses the territory administrated by the country, it is defined as the country crossed by the Tropic of Cancer regardless of the crossing size, any position and proportion. The definition is dominated by astronomical and geographica! factors, and also involves historical and political causes. Via comprehensive analysis, it is determined lhal the Tropic of Cancer passes through 19 countries and regions around the world.

The Tropic of Cancer is an important Salitu de dividing tropical and northern temperate zones, which closely contacts with mankind. Therefore, it arouses the interest and concern of the public on that which country is crossed by the Tropic of Cancer. 15 more accepted countries which is obviously crossed by the Tropic of Cancer on the map of the world from east are China, Burma, India, Bangladesh, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Bahamas, Mauritania, Mali, Mexico, the United States (Hawaii). Other countries are contentious or have different answers and are even wrong. At present, more versions are that the Tropic of Cancer passes through 16 countries, some says that it passes through 17 and even 20 countries. So, how many countries does the Tropic of Cancer go through?
1 The definition of the Tropic of Cancer passing through the country
Even if the Tropic of Cancer is slowly drifting between south and north, its center value always maintains at 23°26' 17"[1]. Therefore, the Tropic of Cancer takes 23°26'17" as the standard. The principle of the Tropic of Cancer passing through the country is that as long as the Tropic of Cancer crosses the territory administrated by the country, it is defined as the country crossed by the Tropic of Cancer regardiess of the crossing size, any position and proportion.
