A&SL: Please share a little background about yourself.
I grew up in a small town in north Mississippi, on the edge of the Delta, the sixth generation of my family to live there. I received a degree in accounting from the University of Mississippi, or "Ole Miss," and graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law. My father was a career Air Force pilot and flew B-24 bombers in World War II. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration. So I suppose you could say I have aviation in my blood.
A&SL: What interests did you pursue after law school and how did this lead you to a legal career at FedEx Express?
I developed an interest in labor law while in law school and began my career as a trial attorney with the National Labor Relations Board. After a few years, I joined a management-side labor law firm in Memphis and later practiced law in a small town in Mississippi.
