First World War: Propaganda and Recruitment is a new resource from Adam Matthew Digital (AMD) that highlights the innovations in popular media, recruitment, public opinion and the relationship with manpower that occurred during the Great War. Propaganda and Recruitment shares a platform with ADM's The First World War: Personal Experiences (RR 2012/196).
The stated aim of Propaganda and Recruitment is "to provide insight into the propaganda and recruitment during the First World War, as it was used as a tool for control over public opinion and manpower". The documents highlight the "relationship between press, government and public", during the Great War and how propaganda was used to gain national support for the war effort. There is a wide variety of document types in Propaganda and Recruitment, including posters, postcards, diaries, cartoons, photographs, leaflets and pamphlets, instructions for propaganda distribution, military instructions, extracts from local newspapers, printed reports, minute books, documents from the Ministry of Information and Kreigspresseamt, newsletters and tribunal case files.
