Mary Stuever is well known to many foresters here in the Southwestern United States, where she has been an active member of the SAF at the section and chapter levels. She has almost 30 years of experience as a forester in the region, with much ofthat time being spent in the field working on timber sales, fighting fire, and conducting burn-area recovery work. Stuever also happens to have both a passion for educating the public about forests and a love for writing. One way that she has been able to combine these two interests has been by writing a monthly column called the "Forester's Log," which is syndicated in several newspapers published in rural forested communities, mainly in Arizona and New Mexico.
Although this new book is largely a collection of Stuever's columns, it also contains some material written earlier in her career. While the focus is clearly on the American Southwest, there are also columns and stories set in places as diverse as Alaska. Mexico,...
